TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MR. JAMES D. RUTLEDGE OF SENECA UPON HIS TRAGIC DEATH IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT DURING FEBRUARY.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic automobile accident during February which took the life of James D. Rutledge of Seneca and severely injured his wife, Mildred, and her mother, Mrs. Emma Bossard; and
Whereas, James Rutledge was a community, educational, and church leader for more than four decades in his home city of Seneca, home county of Oconee and throughout the Upstate of South Carolina. He was a retired Oconee educator and at the time of his death was a member and secretary-treasurer of the Tri-County Technical College Commission on which he had served as a member since 1976 and as secretary-treasurer since 1980; and
Whereas, he was a compassionate man who had deep feelings and love for his community and fellow man. One indication of this is his work in founding the Seneca River Association Family Life Institute which is a focal point for activity in the Seneca and Oconee area and which was the site of his final services; and
Whereas, with the death of this outstanding man at the age of seventy-three, the people of Seneca, Oconee County, and the State of South Carolina have lost a respected community leader who will not easily be replaced, an educator who made significant contributions in the lives of many young students, and a man of God who knew the difference between right and wrong; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their sincere condolences to his wife, children, family, and countless friends in this time of sorrow. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. James D. Rutledge of Seneca upon his tragic death in an automobile accident during February.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Mildred Rutledge.
