COMMENDING PORTIA CUTTINO MYERS OF SUMTER COUNTY, KNOWN FOR HER TIRELESS DEDICATION TO HISTORY, FOR SERVING THE CITIZENS OF HER COUNTY THROUGH HER INTERESTING AND ENLIGHTENING WEEKLY COLUMNS IN THE SUMTER ITEM.
Whereas, Portia Cuttino Myers of Sumter County has for the past eleven years entertained readers of the Sumter Item newspaper through her excellent "People, Places and Things" column, which highlights interesting historical facts about Sumter County; and
Whereas, Mrs. Myers is a graduate of Winthrop College with a degree in business and founded the Shaw Campus of Sumter Area Technical College and served as director for over seventeen years; and
Whereas, she was chosen Career Woman of the Year in 1983 by the Business and Professional Women's Club of Sumter; and
Whereas, she is well known for her love of history and provides much edification to the citizens of her community through her knowledge and writing abilities; and
Whereas, she is greatly deserving of recognition and commendation for the specialized service she has rendered for so many years. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Portia Cuttino Myers of Sumter County, known for her tireless dedication to history, for serving the citizens of her county through her interesting and enlightening weekly columns in the Sumter Item.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Portia Cuttino Myers of Sumter County.
