TO AMEND SECTION 8-17-130, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT, MEMBERSHIP, AND POWERS OF A GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE, SO AS TO AUTHORIZE THE COMMITTEE TO SUBPOENA WITNESSES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The fifth paragraph of Section 8-17-130 is amended to read:
"The committee shall have the authority to call for files, records and papers pertinent to any investigation; to determine the order of the testimony and the appearance of witnesses; to call additional witnesses; and to secure the services of a recording secretary in its discretion. The committee chairman or his designee has the authority to administer oaths; to issue subpoenas and subpoenas duces tecum to allow the committee to interview any person it considers necessary and review any document it considers relevant; to determine the order of the testimony and the appearance of witnesses; to subpoena witnesses at the request of either party; and to secure in its discretion the services of a recording secretary."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
