TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 1-11-271 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLE MANAGEMENT OF THE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD SHALL EXAMINE THE COMPOSITION OF STATE AGENCIES' MOTOR VEHICLE FLEETS TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF EMPLOYING A MIXTURE OF FULL-SIZE, INTERMEDIATE, AND COMPACT AUTOMOBILES TO ENSURE A MORE COST-EFFICIENT STATE FLEET, AND TO PROVIDE THAT ALL NEW AUTOMOBILES PURCHASED BY THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AFTER JULY 1, 1993, MUST BE PRODUCTS OF AMERICAN BASED MANUFACTURERS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 1-11-271. The Division of Motor Vehicle Management of the Budget and Control Board shall examine the composition of state agencies' motor vehicle fleets to determine the feasibility of employing a mixture of full-size, intermediate, and compact automobiles to ensure a more cost efficient state fleet. The division shall make recommendations to each agency regarding downsizing their fleets. All new automobiles purchased by the State of South Carolina after July 1, 1993, must be products of American based manufacturers."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
