TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF REVEREND A. D. DENNIS, SR., PASTOR OF THE MOUNT PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH IN REMBERT FOR THE PAST FIFTY-TWO YEARS AND PASTOR OF JOSHUA BAPTIST CHURCH IN DALZELL FOR THIRTY YEARS, UPON HIS DEATH.
Whereas, members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Reverend A. D. Dennis, Sr., on April 7, 1994, at the age of eighty-five; and
Whereas, Reverend Dennis was a native of Sumter County, attended the public schools of Sumter County and Richmond, Virginia, and furthered his religious studies as a student at the Morris College School of Theology; and
Whereas, on May 18, 1938, this gifted man of God was ordained to preach the gospel and he served several churches in South Carolina with great distinction during the early years of his ministry. For the past fifty-two years Reverend Dennis was the official pastor of his beloved Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Rembert, and for thirty years he served as pastor of Joshua Baptist Church; and
Whereas, in addition to his life-long devotion to the churches which came under his care, he was blessed with a large and wonderful family and many friends to whom he was deeply devoted; and
Whereas, with the passing of this truly outstanding minister, the members of his churches and his many friends throughout Sumter County and the State of South Carolina have lost a person to whom they looked for inspiring leadership and compassion; and Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their sincere condolences to his wife, who he loved deeply, ten children of whom he was very proud, and the rest of his family in this time of sorrow. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express their deepest sympathy to the family of Reverend A. D. Dennis, Sr., Pastor of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Rembert for the past fifty-two years and Pastor of Joshua Baptist Church in Dalzell for thirty years, upon his death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Mary Jane Peay Dennis.
