CONGRATULATING MIDDLETON HIGH SCHOOL OF CHARLESTON ON WINNING THE STATE FINALS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAR'S MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION.
Whereas, Middleton High School of Charleston won the state finals of the South Carolina Bar's Mock Trial Competition on March 26, 1994, in Columbia; and
Whereas, by winning the state finals, Middleton High School earned the privilege of representing the State of South Carolina at the National Mock Trial Competition in Chicago in May, 1994; and
Whereas, the competition was held at the law school at the University of South Carolina and pitted students against each other as they acted out the roles of prosecutors and defense attorneys; and
Whereas, the Middleton High team members include Seth Anderson, Holly Benke, Tara Berry, Isabel Candela, Jordan Davis, Scott Grady, Derrick Hixson, Rachel Kalbeitzer, Abby Jazzar, Erin Mishkin, Michael Phillips, Aleshka Szypulski, Dale Thieling, Lori Ware, and Adrian Wieland; and
Whereas, several of the team members, namely, Abby Jazzar, Michael Phillips, Lori Ware, and Adrian Wieland, were cited for their particularly outstanding work in the roles they played; and
Whereas, the team's adviser from Middleton High School is Ms. Carol Onorato, and the team's attorney-coach is Mr. Matt Henrikson, an associate with the Charleston law firm of Barnwell, Whaley, Patterson, and Helms; and
Whereas, the team's victory in the state finals in Columbia indicates the high level of knowledge and skill possessed by the members; and
Whereas, this victory is an outstanding accomplishment which is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Middleton High School of Charleston on winning the state finals of the South Carolina Bar's Mock Trial Competition.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the mock trial team of Middleton High School, in care of Ms. Carol Onorato.
