COMMENDING JOHN A. MCCARROLL OF GREENVILLE FOR HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PHILLIS WHEATLEY ASSOCIATION IN GREENVILLE, AND SALUTING THE PHILLIS WHEATLEY ASSOCIATION ON ITS SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.
Whereas, John A. McCarroll is a native of Greenville County and received his early education in the Greenville County School District; and
Whereas, Mr. McCarroll attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, where he received his BS degree in education; and
Whereas, he became executive director of the Phillis Wheatley Community Center in August, 1990; and
Whereas, among the numerous programs which have been initiated under his leadership in this capacity are Big Brothers/Big Sisters; the USDA Food Program, which provides free breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack for all of the participants enrolled in Phillis Wheatley Summer Programs in Greenville and Greer; and the Pre-School Child Development Program for three, four, and five-year-old children; and
Whereas, he has organized two locations in Greer for after-school tutorial and homework assistance and has initiated on-going counseling programs to keep children in school; and
Whereas, he has collaborated with the Greenville County School District to utilize its facilities in providing reading and academic remediation programs during the summer months, and he assists youth in finding scholarships for college; and
Whereas, the above activities are but a few examples of the many efforts and accomplishments on Mr. McCarroll's part which have enabled countless citizens to have a happy, rewarding, and fulfilling life; and
Whereas, his work with the Phillis Wheatley Association has been truly outstanding, and he is at present busy planning for the association's celebration recognizing its seventy-fifth anniversary of service to Greenville and surrounding areas. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends John A. McCarroll of Greenville for his many accomplishments as the executive director of the Phillis Wheatley Association in Greenville and salutes the association on its seventy-fifth anniversary.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. McCarroll at the Phillis Wheatley Association, 335 Greenacre Road, Greenville, 29607.
