AN ACT TO CHANGE THE METHOD OF NOMINATION OF A CANDIDATE ELECTED TO THE GOVERNING BODY OF A PUBLIC SERVICE DISTRICT IN CHARLESTON COUNTY FROM A PETITION TO A STATEMENT OF CANDIDACY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Method of nomination changed
SECTION 1. Beginning July 1, 1997, the exclusive method for nomination for candidates elected to the governing body of a public service district in Charleston County must be by a statement of candidacy filed with the county election commission. The time for filing the statement of candidacy must be no later than the time for any previous method of nomination, including a petition, as provided by law.
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
