CONGRATULATING LIEUTENANT GENERAL LLOYD W. NEWTON, A NATIVE OF RIDGELAND, ON EARNING A FOURTH STAR AS A GENERAL IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE.
Whereas, Lieutenant General Lloyd W. Newton, a native of Ridgeland, has earned a fourth star as a general in the United States Air Force; and
Whereas, General Newton will become commander of the Air Force's Air Education and Training Command on April 1, 1997; and
Whereas, he has also been nominated for promotion to full general; and
Whereas, he is currently assistant vice chief of staff for Headquarters Air Force in Washington, D.C. -- a position he has held since July, 1995; and
Whereas, he is a command pilot with more than four thousand flying hours in the T-37, T-38, F-4, F-15, F-16, F-117, and C-12 aircraft; and
Whereas, he has received many major awards and decorations, as well as numerous promotions, throughout his stellar career in the Air Force; and
Whereas, General Newton is an outstanding military man and has brought great distinction to himself, his family, his native Ridgeland and Jasper County, his State, and his country. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Lieutenant General Lloyd W. Newton, a native of Ridgeland, on earning a fourth star as a general in the United States Air Force.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to General Newton.
