COMMENDING THE HONORABLE BENJAMIN J. GORDON, JR. OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY FOR HIS MORE THAN SEVENTEEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND CONGRATULATING HIM ON THE VINDICATION OF HIS GOOD NAME AND REPUTATION ESTABLISHED DURING THAT SERVICE.
Whereas, our esteemed colleague and friend, Benjamin J. Gordon, Jr. was a member of the House of Representatives for more than seventeen years representing district 101 in Williamsburg County; and
Whereas, former Representative Gordon, a minister, sales counselor, and licensed auctioneer, was born in Kingstree, South Carolina, earned a B.A. degree from Clafin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1954, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Friendship College; and
Whereas, he is married to the former Susie Mae Johnson and has one daughter; and
Whereas, although he left the House of Representatives to defend himself of charges lodged during the "Lost Trust" sting operation, his good name and reputation were restored by Federal District Court Judge Falcon Hawkins whose February 28, 1997, order dismissed all charges brought against him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly commend the Honorable Benjamin J.
