CONGRATULATING MR. CRAIG D. MELVIN OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON BEING NAMED THE CITIZEN OF THE MONTH BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE DISTRICT 73 CITIZEN RECOGNITION TASK FORCE AND FOR HIS MANY OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS.
Whereas, Mr. Craig D. Melvin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Melvin of Richland County; and
Whereas, Craig is a senior at Columbia High School who has distinguished himself by assuming numerous international, national, state, and local level leadership roles which include President of Key Club International, Governor of Palmetto Boys State, Vice President of the Columbia High School Student Body, and Captain of the Columbia High School Debate Team; and
Whereas, his active membership on the Columbia Commission on Children and Youth, Adopt-an-Eagle Program, Alzheimer's Association, participation in the City-Year Serve-a-Thon, Juvenile Diabetes Walk, and AIDS Walk, and volunteer work with the Special Olympics, and missionary work in the Dominican Republic is an outstanding model for young men and women; and
Whereas, Craig's hard work as an "Our Generation" reporter for WIS TV 10 in Columbia earned him the 1996 First Place Award in the South Carolina Associated Press Broadcasters Award Competition on Reporting Education; and
Whereas, he has won numerous other awards and recognitions that include six Model United Nations Outstanding Delegate/Delegation awards and the Optimist Club's District Oratorical Contest and being listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students; and
Whereas, because of these and many more accomplishments, Craig was named South Carolina House District 73 Citizen of the Month by House District 73's Citizens Recognition Task Force. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Craig D. Melvin of Richland County on being named the Citizen of the Month by the South Carolina House District 73 Citizen Recognition Task Force and for his many outstanding achievements.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Craig D. Melvin.
