RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING WILLIAM F. "BILL" DAVIS OF HORRY COUNTY ON RECEIVING THE HONORARY DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PUBLIC SERVICE FROM COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY.
Whereas, Coastal Carolina University is scheduled to award three honorary degrees during commencement exercises on May 9, 1997; one of the recipients is William F. "Bill" Davis, who will be conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Public Service; and
Whereas, Bill Davis served with great distinction on the Horry County Board of Education for twenty-nine years and was board chairman from 1954 to 1982; and
Whereas, he was an original founder of Coastal Carolina and was involved in early discussions about the establishment of this superb institution of higher learning and later was instrumental in securing funding for the first building on the Coastal campus, the Edward M. Singleton Building; and
Whereas, Bill Davis is a charter member of the Coastal Educational Foundation, Inc., and served as a member of the foundation from 1954 to 1956; since 1986, he has been a member of the Horry County Higher Education Commission; and
Whereas, he has served the community in many other capacities and areas and has received numerous awards over the years for his excellent public and community service; known widely and most affectionately as "Mr. Bill", William F. Davis is one of the true leaders and most remarkable and outstanding citizens of the Pee Dee; he is admired and loved by all who know him, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to accord him special recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and congratulates William F. "Bill" Davis of Horry County on receiving the honorary degree of Doctor of Public Service from Coastal Carolina University.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to William F. "Bill" Davis.
