TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, DIVISION OF MOTOR VEHICLES, RELATING TO RELEASE OF LICENSING AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION, DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 2189, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The regulations of the Department of Public Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles, relating to release of licensing and registration information, designated as Regulation Document Number 2189, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Act 459 of 1996 codified the Governor's Executive Order which transferred the remaining motor vehicle sections from the Department of Revenue to the Department of Public Safety. One of these sections was the license and registration section. Section 23-6-30 requires the Department of Public Safety to formulate regulations to administer the duties and responsibilities transferred to it by restructuring. Section 56-3-530 requires the Department of Public Safety to formulate regulations regarding the release of licensing and registration information. The regulations listed below contain the procedures currently utilized by the department in releasing this information.
