EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MRS. MARTHA ELIZABETH COX OF FLORENCE COUNTY FOR HER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ON THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Cox of Florence County retired January 26, 2000, after two and one-half years of service on the State Board of Education representing the Twelfth Judicial Circuit; and
Whereas, in that post she has rendered tireless and invaluable service to the cause of education in this State and also set a high standard for her colleagues on the board and her successors to emulate; and
Whereas, before her service on the State Board of Education, she served from 1995 to 1997 on the South Carolina Commission on Women; and
Whereas, in addition to her public service, she has served her state and community through two terms as first vice chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party, as the long time secretary of the Florence County Republican Party, and as Florence County chairman of the Christian Coalition; and
Whereas, she has shared her musical talents by service as pianist at Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church; and
Whereas, together with her husband Tim, she has raised two children, Paul and Shelly and dotes on two grandchildren; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they may express appreciation for the dedicated public service of so distinguished a South Carolinian. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation to Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Cox of Florence County for her distinguished service on the State Board of Education.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Cox.
