TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE MR. AND MRS. GEORGE A. FULMER OF COLUMBIA FOR THE WONDROUS AND JOYOUS EVENT OF HAVING CELEBRATED THEIR SEVENTY-FIFTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON JANUARY 9, 1999.
Whereas, with great pride and admiration, the members of the General Assembly have learned that Mr. and Mrs. George Alpheus Fulmer of Columbia celebrated their seventy-fifth wedding anniversary on January 9, 1999; and
Whereas, George Alpheus Fulmer was born on February 4, 1900 in Richland County and is now ninety-nine years of age, and Pearl Price Fulmer was born on August 30, 1905, also in Richland County; and
Whereas, George and Pearl Fulmer were married in Raleigh, North Carolina on January 9, 1924; and
Whereas, the Fulmers have lived in the Columbia area all the years of their marriage; and
Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Fulmer are members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church since 1927, and Mr. Fulmer is an honorary life member of the Church Council; and
Whereas, this couple has given so much of themselves to others in their community, in Richland County, and in the State; and
Whereas, George Fulmer worked for the State Hospital from 1924 until 1929; and
Whereas, Mr. Fulmer began working for the City of Columbia's Police Department in 1929 and retired from its investigative unit in 1966; and
Whereas, the City of Columbia recently recognized Mr. Fulmer as the police department's oldest living retired member and Police Chief Charles P. Austin honored him by stating, "He provided the foundation on which we have continued to build this department"; and
Whereas, Pearl Fulmer was a seamstress and a homemaker; and
Whereas, the Fulmers were blessed with four lovely children, Erma Fulmer Sims, who passed away in 1974, and Elva Fulmer Lee, Virginia Fulmer Floyd, and Dorothy Fulmer Kerscher; and
Whereas, the Fulmers are further blessed with twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren; and
Whereas, the Fulmer's strong morals and Christian values have been wonderful examples to their children, their children's families, and all their many friends and acquaintances over the years of this century; and
Whereas, the strength of their union is a true example of commitment, devotion, Christian love, faith, and endurance; and
Whereas, their innumerable friends respect, admire, and love them deeply for their outstanding qualities and exemplary deeds; and
Whereas, we in the General Assembly honor the true meaning of marriage when we honor Pearl and George Fulmer and extend to them our best wishes. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina recognize and congratulate Mr. and Mrs. George A. Fulmer of Columbia for the wondrous and joyous event of having celebrated their seventy-fifth wedding anniversary on January 9, 1999.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. and Mrs. George A. Fulmer.
