A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING THE CITY OF ANDERSON FOR RECEIVING THE ALL-AMERICA CITY AWARD FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO INITIATING COMMUNITY-DRIVEN PROJECTS THAT ENHANCE THE LIVES OF ITS CITIZENS.

Whereas, the All-America City Award is aimed at recognizing extraordinary civic accomplishments; and

Whereas, the award recognizes the collaboration and community strength necessary to overcome seemingly extreme obstacles; and

Whereas, the following three recent community-driven projects that significantly impacted the Anderson area were the focus of the City of Anderson's All-America City Award application: the Westside Community Center; the Alliance for a Healthy Future; and the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center; and

Whereas, the community groups responsible for these civic accomplishments included Anderson County, the City of Anderson, Anderson School District Five, the Anderson Area Medical Center and the AnMed Health System, and the Alliance for a Healthy Future; and

Whereas, the Alliance for a Healthy Future included the following non-profit organizations: the Anderson Free Clinic, the Westside Community Center, Hospice of the Upstate, the Anderson Area YMCA, AnMed Healthy Futures Trust, and Partners for a Healthy Future and Partners for a Healthy Community; and

Whereas, while a seventy-four member delegation represented the City of Anderson in Louisville, Kentucky at the fifty-first All-America City Awards ceremony and physically brought Anderson's All-America City Award home, the entire Anderson community deserves the recognition and pride that comes with this achievement; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize this great achievement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, hereby congratulate and commend the City of Anderson for receiving the All-America City Award for its commitment to initiating community-driven projects that enhance the lives of its citizens.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to: the Anderson City Council; the Anderson County Council; City of Anderson Mayor Richard A. Shirley; Anderson County Administrator Joey Preston; Dr. Karen Woodward, outgoing Superintendent of Education for Anderson County School District Number 5; Dr. Betty Bagley, incoming Superintendent of Education for Anderson County School District Number 5; Mr. John Miller, President of the Anderson Area Medical Center; Dr. Beatrice Thompson, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Westside Community Center; Ms. Nancy Boyle, Executive Director of Hospice of the Upstate; Mr. Russell Harris, Executive Director of Partners for a Healthy Community; Ms. Maureen Sartini, Executive Director of the Anderson Free Clinic; and Mr. Billy Rhodes, President of the Anderson Area YMCA.
