TO COMMEND AND THANK MR. WILLIE B. OWENS FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS A MEMBER OF THE ORANGEBURG-CALHOUN TECHNICAL COLLEGE BOARD OF COMMISSION.
Whereas, Mr. Willie B. Owens retired this year from the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Board of Commission and has made valuable contributions to education in this career and activities in the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, he was born in Branchville, South Carolina in 1938 and is married to Mrs. Anita P. Owens; and
Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Owens have raised two sons, Derrick C. and Willie B.; and
Whereas, Mr. Owens received his B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from South Carolina State University, completed post graduate study at Clemson University, and received his Ed.S. at The Citadel; and
Whereas, his contributions to education throughout his career have produced countless improvements to the educational system in his community and State; and
Whereas, he has successfully proposed numerous grant programs, funding important school programs such as alcohol and drug prevention and overall educational improvement; and
Whereas, Mr. Owens has also served his community and State in many varied ways and has received numerous honors and awards in recognition of his service, including participation in President Carter's White House Conference for Leading Black Americans in the Southeast; and
Whereas, Mr. Owens is an outstanding individual and is highly deserving of an expression of sincere appreciation for his excellent service to his community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends and thanks Mr. Willie B. Owens for his dedicated service upon his retirement as a member of the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Board of Commission.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Willie B. Owens.
