TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-2125 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT VEHICULAR TRAFFIC THAT IS IN THE LEFTMOST LANE OF TRAVEL ON A ONE-WAY STREET, FACING A RED LIGHT, AND AT AN INTERSECTION WITH ANOTHER ONE-WAY STREET WITH TRAFFIC TRAVELING FROM THE TURNING DRIVER'S RIGHT TO THE TURNING DRIVER'S LEFT MAY ENTER THE INTERSECTION AND MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO THE EXTREME LEFT-HAND LANE LAWFULLY AVAILABLE TO TRAFFIC UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-5-2125. Except where prohibited by an appropriate sign, vehicular traffic that is in the leftmost lane of travel on a one-way street, facing a red light, and at an intersection with another one-way street with traffic traveling from the turning driver's right to the turning driver's left may enter the intersection and make a left turn into the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to traffic. The turning vehicle shall come to a complete stop and shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and to other traffic using the intersection."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
