APPLAUDING THE PEE DEE ACADEMY LADY EAGLES ON THEIR SECOND STRAIGHT SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, AND RECOGNIZING THE MULLINS TEAM AND COACH LORIE ANN BAXLEY FOR THEIR COMEBACK FROM THE LOSS OF FIVE SENIORS ON THE 1999 TITLE TEAM TO AN ASTOUNDING UNDEFEATED 19-0 CHAMPIONSHIP RUN IN 2000.
Whereas, the Pee Dee Academy Lady Eagles of Mullins capped a perfect 19-0 regular volleyball 2000 season in November with a 15-1, 16-14, 15-10 victory over Beaufort Academy for the South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AA state volleyball crown; and
Whereas, the state win was a repeat performance for the 2000 Lady Eagles, in spite of the loss of five seniors from the 1999 stellar squad; and
Whereas, the core of four returning veterans "played with a lot of heart", according to Coach Baxley, inspiring the rest of the talented team to march toward another state title with no defeats marring their nineteen-game schedule; and
Whereas, the twelve-member championship team consisted of Jayme Elaine Baker, Anna Alston Daniel, Heather Lane Dozier, Bridget Megan Elvington, Sarah K. Henderson, Ashley Sherrill Gaddy, Megan Allanah Gore, Anne Littlefield Hunter, Karen Ben Patel, Brittany Elizabeth Price, Lauren Elizabeth Smith, and Jennifer Leigh Wallace; and
Whereas, the Pee Dee Academy Eagles exemplify the determination in pursuit of excellence that characterizes the young people of this State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly applaud the Pee Dee Academy Lady Eagles on their second straight South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AA State Volleyball Championship, and recognize the Mullins team and Coach Lorie Ann Baxley for their comeback from the loss of five seniors on the 1999 title team to an undefeated 19-0 championship run in 2000.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Lorie Ann Baxley and the Pee Dee Academy Volleyball Eagles.
