TO COMMEND THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE "LADY EAGLES" BASKETBALL TEAM OF PEE DEE ACADEMY FOR THEIR REMARKABLE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE 2000-2001 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the "Lady Eagles" Basketball Team of Pee Dee Academy worked together throughout the season to accomplish their ultimate goal of winning the 2000-2001 South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class AA State Championship, and the team realized this goal when they defeated King Academy on Saturday, March 3, 2001; and
Whereas, the Lady Basketball Team at Pee Dee Academy, led by first-year Head Coach Marni Edwards, finished a tremendous season of spirited competition with an astounding overall record of twenty-six wins and only four losses; and
Whereas, the "Lady Eagles" met King Academy in the SCISA Class AA Championship Game on Saturday, March 3, 2001, and with faithful Pee Dee fans cheering them on, the "Lady Eagles" held on to a slim 14-13 lead at the end of a tough first half; the girls from Pee Dee were down 31-26 midway through the third quarter but they maintained their poise and regained the lead at 38-36, finally prevailing by a score of 44-42 at the end of what was a spectacular title game; and
Whereas, the leadership, discipline, and inspiration provided by first-year Head Coach Marni Edwards was a crucial part of the winning season and state championship of the Pee Dee Academy "Lady Eagles", and as a result of her outstanding leadership and the team's accomplishments, Head Coach Marni Edwards was named the High School Sports Report Class AA Coach of the Year; and
Whereas, the 2000-2001 Pee Dee Academy Girls Basketball Team was made up of a group of talented and determined student athletes including Jean Marie Anderson, Ashley Dawn Cox, Heather Lane Dozier, Bridget Megan Elvington, Kathleen Emilyn Heher, Anne Littlefield Hunter, Margaret Deanna McMillan, Lauren Elizabeth Smith, and Jennifer Leigh Wallace. The team was directed by Head Coach Marni Edwards and Assistant Coach Kristi Smith, with the support and encouragement of Athletic Director Lon Spivey and other Pee Dee Academy officials; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives applaud the members of the Pee Dee Academy Girls Basketball Team on their fantastic season and their exciting championship win. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the players, coaches, and staff of the "Lady Eagles" Basketball Team of Pee Dee Academy for their remarkable season and congratulate them on winning the 2000-2001 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Basketball Coach Marni Edwards and the Pee Dee "Lady Eagles" Basketball Team.
