A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND RECOGNIZE DANIELLE RIVERS UPON RECEIVING THE "WOMEN IN GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES AWARD" AT THE STATE SCIENCE FAIR AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, a knowledge of science and technology is essential in these rapidly changing times, and it is with great pride that we recognize those students who excel in this area; and

Whereas, Danielle Rivers, the daughter of Patricia Rivers, is an eighth grader at Saint Andrews Middle School and recently received a geology award at the State Science Fair at the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the State Science Fair was held on March 19, 2004, and Ms. Rivers won the "Women in Geological Sciences Award" for her project on "What Rocks Tell Us About South Carolina"; and

Whereas, completing this project on her own with very little help from her science teacher, Ms. Carol Olexa, Ms. Rivers demonstrated that her hard work and determination could lead to great achievement and success; and

Whereas, highly respected among her peers, Ms. Rivers is an excellent student whose wisdom and intelligence exceeds her years; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize Danielle Rivers for her extraordinary achievements and are extremely proud to call her one of South Carolina's own. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate and recognize Danielle Rivers for receiving the "Women in Geological Sciences Award" at the State Science Fair and extend best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Danielle Rivers.
