A HOUSE RESOLUTION

APPLAUDING LADIES GOLF PROFESSIONAL ANNIKA SORENSTAM FOR HER OUTSTANDING CAREER ON THE LPGA TOUR AND RECOGNIZING HER INSPIRING AND COURAGEOUS PLAY IN THE BANK OF AMERICA COLONIAL AS THE FIRST FEMALE GOLFER TO TEE IT UP WITH THE MEN IN A PGA TOUR EVENT IN ALMOST SIXTY YEARS.

Whereas, Annika Sorenstam is deservedly known as the World's best female golfer; and

Whereas, since starting her golf play at age 12, inspired by her parents and her sister, the thirty-three-year-old Swede came into her own in the 1990's; and

Whereas, by the end of the 2001 LPGA Tour season, she had captured or bettered thirty LPGA records, including an awesome second-round 59 at the Standard Register PING, and was named Rolex Player of the Year; and

Whereas, so far into this season, Annika has finished in the top ten in all five of her LPGA starts, with one first place adding to her more than half a million dollars in 2003 prize money and her career victory total of 43; and

Whereas, the gutsy and charming golfer wowed men and women alike and inspired countless aspiring girl golfers when she ably competed with the men at the PGA Tour event Bank of America Colonial in May; and

Whereas, her charisma and her golf game advanced the cause of women athletes everywhere, and the South Carolina House of Representatives is proud to acknowledge her feat. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina applaud Ladies Golf Professional Annika Sorenstam for her outstanding career on the LPGA Tour and recognize her inspiring and courageous play in the Bank of America Colonial as the first female golfer to tee it up with the men in a PGA Tour event in almost sixty years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Annika Sorenstam.
