VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE CHRISTOPHER ROARK FOR HIS HEROIC RESCUE OF RONALD WHETSEL.
Whereas, in a selfless act of heroism, Christopher Roark rescued Ronald Whetsel who was trapped underneath his van early Wednesday, November 19, 2003; and
Whereas, Mr. Whetsel was on his way to Metakote Corporation, where he works as the Human Resources Manager, when he stopped to change a tire on his van; and
Whereas, while changing the tire, the jack collapsed and pinned Mr. Whetsel to the ground, making it hard for him to breathe; and
Whereas, upon seeing Mr. Whetsel waving his arms from under the vehicle, Christopher Roark, who was on his way to Lakewood High School, made his mother stop the car and ran to see if he could help; and
Whereas, Christopher went to the back of the vehicle and in a burst of strength, lifted the vehicle and grabbed Mr. Whetsel's feet who was then able to squeeze out from under the van; and
Whereas, Mr. Whetsel was subsequently taken by ambulance to Tuomey Regional Medical Center where his injuries were treated and he was released late that afternoon; and
Whereas, Mr. Whetsel is extremely grateful to Christopher Roark who was able to rescue him and he hopes that Christopher will grow up to be an intelligent, good man; and
Whereas, after the rescue, Christopher was awarded the Principal's Cup, which is given to students or organizations that display acts of good citizenship, from Lakewood High School Principal, Dr. Randy Reagan, as well as a plaque in recognition of Christopher's heroic act; and
Whereas, Christopher said that being a hero runs in his family and that if he saw someone in trouble again, he would do everything he could to help them; and
Whereas, Christopher Roark displayed both good citizenship and selflessness when he rescued Mr. Whetsel, and South Carolina is honored to have a hero like Christopher. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Christopher Roark for his heroic rescue of Ronald Whetsel.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Christopher Roark.
