A HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE CLOVER HIGH SCHOOL LADY BLUE EAGLES OF YORK COUNTY ON THEIR 2003 STATE AAA TENNIS TITLE, AND HONORING THE PLAYERS AND COACHES RENEE FARRIS AND PHIL WINGARD ON THE FIRST MAJOR SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE SCHOOL IN TWENTY-SIX YEARS.

Whereas, the Clover High School Lady Blue Eagles of York County capped their stellar 2003 tennis season by taking the AAA State title from the heavily favored Myrtle Beach Seahawks in a 4-3 upset; and

Whereas, the hard-fought victory was a real team effort, with singles wins from Cullie Marsh and Kelly Tidwell and doubles victories from duos Alex McClure/Lindsay Bowman and Alycia Jiminez/Elizabeth Stall; and

Whereas, the title win was all the sweeter for the Lady Blue Eagles whose victory avenged a 6-0 loss to the Seahawks in last year's championship match; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the 20-0 team, that also was honored with the Sportsmanship Award in its first invitation to the Hall of Fame Classic at Belton, proves the successful combination of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship urged on them by Head Coach Renee Farris and her assistant, Phil Wingard. Members of the top AAA tennis team are: Lindsay Bowman, Sarah Cusak, Katie Daniel, Kelsey Davis, Rebecca Hester, Alycia Jiminez, Elizabeth Kitts, Meagan Love, Cullie Marsh, Megan McCarter, Alex McClure, Taylor Rawls, Casey Smith, Katie Sanderson, Elizabeth Stall, and Kelly Tidwell. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives do hereby congratulate the Clover High School Lady Blue Eagles of York County on their 2003 State AAA tennis title and honor the players and Coaches Renee Farris and Phil Wingard on the first major sports championship for the school in twenty-six years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Tennis Coach Renee Farris on behalf of the championship team.
