A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE RED CROSS OF BAMBERG COUNTY, ESPECIALLY VOLUNTEERS BETH PREGNALL, GENIE BELLAMY, AND BIG LOT STORE FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION IN MAKING THE RED CROSS "TOYS FOR TOTS" CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE SUCH A SUCCESS.

Whereas, during the Christmas season, it is important for South Carolinians to remember those community members who are in need; and

Whereas, the Red Cross of Bamberg County extended the spirit of the season with its annual "Toys for Tots" drive, collecting and donating toys to over 132 families and 279 children and providing a "Merry Christmas" to children across the county; and

Whereas, on December 17, 2003, the Men's Club of Trinity United Methodist Church collected the toy collection boxes and prepared for the distribution day on December 19, 2003; and

Whereas, shopping for toys began early on December 19, 2003, with parents lined up outside the church at 7:30 in the morning, and the shopping continued throughout the day with parents and grandparents picking out toys and Christmas gifts for their children; and

Whereas, the driving force behind the "Toys for Tots" toy drive was the tremendous amount of effort put forth by Beth Pregnall, with the help of Genie Bellamy, to ensure that the toy drive would be a success; and

Whereas, Beth Pregnall spearheaded the involvement between the Red Cross and the "Toys for Tots" toy drive and her efforts were deeply rewarded by the amount of support given by members of the community in donating toys; and

Whereas, Ms. Pregnall worked tirelessly to make the toy drive a success, contacting Big Lot Store to contribute bicycles and tricycles for the children, and it was her interaction with Trinity United Methodist Church that gave the drive a "store for the day" so that parents could "shop" for Christmas gifts; and

Whereas, Big Lot Store was also a major contributor to the toy drive, giving the program a twenty percent discount on toys bought at the store which resulted in six free bicycles for the children; and

Whereas, playing the role of "Santa's Helpers," Beth Pregnall, and all the volunteers for the Bamberg County Red Cross helped to make Christmas a little bit merrier for those families in need and put smiles on the faces of numerous children on Christmas morning. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Red Cross of Bamberg County, especially volunteers Beth Pregnall, Genie Bellamy, and Big Lot Store for their hard work and dedication in making the Red Cross "Toys for Tots" Christmas toy drive such a success.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Red Cross of Bamberg County.
