A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR THE IRMO HIGH SCHOOL "YELLOW JACKETS" BOYS VARSITY SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH PHIL SAVITZ ON WINNING THEIR FIFTEENTH CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO WISH THEM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are proud to recognize the Irmo High School "Yellow Jackets" Boys Varsity Soccer Team on winning the 2004 Class AAAA State Championship held at Memorial Stadium in Columbia on Saturday, May 15, 2004; and

Whereas, the top-ranking team as it entered the playoffs, the Yellow Jackets finished the season with an impressive overall record of twenty-two wins and three losses; and

Whereas, in his twenty-four years of coaching at Irmo, Phil Savitz has built a long tradition of excellence in soccer with a coaching record of an extraordinary four hundred fifty-one wins, forty-five losses, and five ties; and

Whereas, the Irmo team captured the Region 5 Class AAAA Championship and then dominated the quality Hilton Head team in the Class AAAA Lower State Final to earn the right to return to the big dance in a rematch of last year's championship game against Northwestern; and

Whereas, for the second year in a row, the championship title came down to the wire with a penalty kick resolution; and

Whereas, though Northwestern fought hard and dominated in the early part of the game, the Irmo team fought back and once again capitalized on their chance to achieve victory over Northwestern; and

Whereas, building a winning tradition takes the time, talents, and efforts of many including Head Coach Phil Savitz; Assistant Coaches Dennis Cook, Denny Sago, Todd Woodward, Matt Smith and Matt Barry; Trainer Scott Douglass; Managers Kelly Holder and Ellie Pappas; Student Trainers Cindy Shao, Nafisa Isa, Danielle Glenn, and Lamont Barrett; and Video Technician Doug Gray; and

Whereas, the members of this outstanding 2004 Championship team are: Austin Moody, Ryan Price, Matt Koehlar, Timmy Clifton, Spencer Lewis, Garrid Edmond, Alex Acree, Philipp Soppa, Zach Prince, Brenton Everett, Bradley Morgan, Sani Hadziahmetovic, Stephen Horton, Clayton Melson, Christian Monroe, Patrick Faust, Tyler Haladay, Mark Bennink, Grayson Mullins, Justin Greene, Chris McCartney, Jeff Sandt, Ryan Cromer, and Michael Bedenbaugh; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is pleased to pause to again recognize the Irmo "Yellow Jackets" Soccer Team, which holds the state record for most state championships, for its stamina, athletic abilities, and incredible talent. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina congratulate and honor the Irmo High School "Yellow Jackets" Boys Varsity Soccer Team and Head Coach Phil Savitz on winning their Fifteenth Class AAAA State Championship and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Phil Savitz on behalf of the Irmo High School "Yellow Jackets" Boys Varsity Soccer Team.
