VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO COMMEMORATE DUKE POWER, ITS EMPLOYEES AND RETIREES, ON ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY, AND EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.
Whereas, 2004 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Duke Power by James Buchanan "Buck" Duke, Dr. Gill Wylie, and William States Lee; and
Whereas, the first power plant in the Duke Power system was the Catawba Hydroelectric Station in South Carolina, which harnessed the water power of the Catawba River that would drive economic growth of the Piedmont Carolinas; and
Whereas, Duke Power earned the Edison Award, the electric industry's most prestigious honor, for excellence in planning and executing the Keowee-Toxaway Project in South Carolina, a project encompassing Lake Keowee, Oconee Nuclear Station, and the Keowee and Jocassee hydro stations; and
Whereas, Duke Power is an employer of thousands in South Carolina; and
Whereas, Duke Power employees and retires continue a long tradition of community service through their active roles in supporting organizations and activities that improve the quality of life in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the vision of the Duke Power founders lives on today, as the company continues to supply the region with electricity; and
Whereas, Duke Power renews its commitment to economic development, working with business and community leaders to invigorate the Carolinas with new ideas and industries to spur economic growth. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commemorate Duke Power, its employees and retirees, on its 100th anniversary, and extend best wishes for continued success in the future.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Duke Power.
