A HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING, HONORING, AND RECOGNIZING D. H. "JEFF" JEFCOAT OF LITTLE MOUNTAIN FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF THE FAMILY MOTOR COACH ASSOCIATION AND FOR HIS ACHIEVEMENTS, CONTRIBUTIONS, AND LEADERSHIP SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Whereas, D. H. "Jeff" Jefcoat of Little Mountain, one of South Carolina's outstanding citizens, served with distinction as national president of the Family Motor Coach Association for a two-year term from August 2001 through July 2003; and

Whereas, the Family Motor Coach Association, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, is an international organization with a membership of approximately one hundred twenty-eight thousand families, equating to approximately two hundred fifty thousand people, and representing all fifty states of the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Australia, and other nations; and

Whereas, D. H. Jefcoat is the first South Carolinian to serve as national president of the Family Motor Coach Association; and

Whereas, under the distinguished leadership of D. H. Jefcoat, the Family Motor Coach Association celebrated its fortieth anniversary in July 2003, the association having been organized in July 1963; and

Whereas, the Family Motor Coach Association offers twelve rallies each year in various geographic locations. National President Jefcoat was elected in 2001 at the National Convention Rally in Redmond, Oregon, and served his two-year national presidency through the National Convention Rally held in July 2003 in Buffalo, New York; and

Whereas, Mr. Jefcoat during his business career was one of South Carolina's most prominent retail business leaders, serving as General Manager of Sears in Columbia, South Carolina, a position from which he retired in 1987 after a forty-year career with the Sears organization. Before joining Sears of Columbia, he served as General Manager of Sears in Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and

Whereas, Jeff Jefcoat has achieved a remarkable record of community and public leadership, serving as President, Columbia Rotary Club, 1981-82; President, South Carolina Merchants Association, 1981-82; President, Little Mountain Ruritan Club, 1984-85; Chair, Newberry County Transportation Committee, 1996-99; Chair, Newberry County Recreation Committee; board member, Jesse Frank Hawkins Nursing Home; and board member, Senior Catering, Inc., of Little Mountain; and

Whereas, Mr. Jefcoat was born March 13, 1929, in Jones County, Mississippi. He is married to the former Jean Merritt also of Jones County, Mississippi, and they have four children and eight grandchildren; and

Whereas, the leadership performance of D. H. "Jeff" Jefcoat as national President of Family Motor Coach Association was outstanding, and his extensive record of leadership service has meant much to the County of Newberry, the Central Midlands region, the State of South Carolina, and the United States of America. We are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize his outstanding leadership service; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representative, by this resolution, congratulate D. H. Jefcoat for his outstanding leadership service as national president of the Family Motor Coach Association. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate, honor, and recognize D. H. "Jeff" Jefcoat of Little Mountain for his outstanding service as national president of the Family Motor Coach Association and for his achievements, contributions, and leadership service to the State of South Carolina and the United States of America.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Jefcoat.
