Whereas, the South Carolina State Museum has been selected by the Southern Living Readers' Choice Awards as the third must popular museum in the Southeast, a most prestigious award in its own right, but made even more so by the fact that the number one and two ranked museums were the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D. Whereas, the mix of interactive exhibits, permanent, long term, and changing exhibits and the multitude of exciting programs make each visit to the State Museum a fresh and new experience; and

Whereas, the State Museum offers a Science Theater, Nature Space, and the Stringer Discovery Center, where one can be awed by electricity, experience the power of an erupting volcano or explore grandma's attic; and

Whereas, the South Carolina State Museum provides a variety of services to assist the state's museums and cultural organizations and since 1977, has helped museums better serve their visitors by providing professional services and traveling exhibits; and

Whereas, the State Museum works closely with the South Carolina Federation of Museums, a professional organization representing museums and their employees to develop training activities and administer special projects for the benefit of South Carolina's local and regional museums; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions the South Carolina State Museum has made to not only South Carolina but also to the Southeastern region, providing exciting educational experiences to all its visitors and bringing great pride to all South Carolinians.
