TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE CONDOLENCES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF WALTER S. RICHBOURG OF MANNING ON THE SAD OCCASION OF HIS DEATH FRIDAY, APRIL 2, 2004.
Whereas, Walter Scott Richbourg died Friday, April 2, 2004, in Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia at the age of eighty-eight; and
Whereas, born September 14, 1915, in the Foreston community of Clarendon County, Mr. Richbourg was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Carrie Lou Holladay Richbourg; and
Whereas, a retired farmer, Mr. Richbourg served as auditor of Clarendon County from July 1967 until his retirement on June 30, 1987; and
Whereas, elected to the Clarendon County Council in June of 1989, Mr. Richbourg served until December 31, 1993, completing almost three decades of public service to the citizens of Clarendon County; and
Whereas, a member of St. Peter's Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Williams-Burgess Post 68, Mr. Richbourg was also a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran of World War II; and
Whereas, surviving Mr. Richbourg are his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Sue and Ellis Lane, and his granddaughters Susan Adelle Lane and Carrie Anna Lane; and
Whereas Mr. Richbourg was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Flagler, John and Laford Richbourg, and his sisters, Frankie Ridgeway, Irene Haley, Addie Mae Holladay, and Louise Ardis; and
Whereas, Walter Scott Richbourg was a well-known member of the Manning community, and his presence will be sorely missed by friends and family members alike. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives express their sincere condolences to the family and many friends of Walter S. Richbourg of Manning on the sad occasion of his death Friday, April 2, 2004.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Walter S. Richbourg.
