A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

HONORING THE INDIAN LAND HIGH SCHOOL "LADY WARRIORS" VOLLEYBALL TEAM OF LANCASTER COUNTY ON WINNING THE 2004 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND CONGRATULATING THE TEAM ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE 16-1 SEASON.

Whereas, on November 6, 2004, the Indian Land High School "Lady Warriors" volleyball team captured the Class A State Championship, the fourth in school history, with a win over the Johnsonville High School "Lady Flashes"; and

Whereas, the Lady Warriors completed the season with an exceptional record of sixteen wins in the regular season and only one loss and claimed the Regional Championship for the eleventh time since 1993; and

Whereas, the Lady Warriors fought through a tough five-game match with Southside Christian High School in the Upper State bracket to reach the state championship. This grueling two-hour contest was highlighted by the outstanding play by the starters including senior Cynthia Campbell who finished with four kills and three aces, and Heather Langley who added a season high seventeen kills and six blocks; and

Whereas, this win setup a championship showdown with Johnsonville, a team the Lady Warriors had faced twice previously in the state championship. Indian Land took the first two games and appeared to be cruising to an easy victory before Johnsonville captured the third game. This momentum could not carry Johnsonville any further, however, as Indian Land won the deciding game 25-14 adding yet another state championship to its already impressive trophy case; and

Whereas, exhibiting tremendous hard work and team dedication all season, the members of this championship team include: Cynthia Campbell, Kristin Campbell, Ervin Coley, Kimber Coley, Shia Crawford, Jen Dailey, Jacquelyn Delaune, Ashley Harris, Jean Marie Harris, Heather Langley, Rachel McConnell, Hannah Owens, Shaune Scott, Amanda Smith, Paige Thomas, and Merissa Witherspoon; and

Whereas, the team was ably guided by Head Coach Tamara Jacobus with the support of Principal Mary Bernsdorff and Athletic Director Mike Mayer, all of whom are extremely proud of the team's accomplishments; and

Whereas, the dedication shown by the members of this team extends to all areas of these ladies' lives and will surely lead to many more great accomplishments in the future; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize this outstanding team for their 2004 State Volleyball Championship and commend them for the fine example in sportsmanship they set for others and to congratulate them on a job well done. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, honor the Indian Land High School Lady Warriors of Lancaster County on their 2004 State Volleyball Championship and congratulate the team on their impressive 16-1 season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Tamara Jacobus on behalf of the Indian Land High School Lady Warriors volleyball team.
