VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON THE DEATH OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL TROOPER JONATHAN W. PARKER OF SUMTER COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Senior Trooper Jonathan W. Parker of Sumter County at the age of twenty-nine on Monday, May 16, 2005; and
Whereas, the former Sumter County Sheriff's deputy was assigned to Troop One, Post A of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, which includes Sumter and Clarendon Counties, and was killed in the line of duty as he waited to join the pursuit of an armed robbery suspect; and
Whereas, law enforcement was Mr. Parker's life's work and from the beginning of his career, he quickly built a reputation as a hardworking and dedicated law enforcement officer; and
Whereas, a graduate of Sumter High School and the Citadel, he truly loved his chosen vocation and was proud to be a member of the South Carolina Highway Patrol; and
Whereas, the loss of his young life is felt not just by his beloved wife, family, and friends who loved him but also by the law enforcement community, the citizens of Sumter and Clarendon Counties, and the citizens of the State; and
Whereas, it is with honor that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause to reflect on the life and the ultimate sacrifice of Senior Trooper Jonathan W. Parker. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow on the death of South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Jonathan W. Parker of Sumter County and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Senior Trooper Jonathan W. Parker.
