A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE BRITTNEY L. JAMES, SENIOR AT DREHER HIGH SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA, FOR HER ATHLETIC PROWESS AS A TRACK AND FIELD STAR AND FOR HER OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP, AND HER ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND TO EXTEND HER THE VERY BEST IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, a truly gifted individual, Brittney James has excelled in every facet of her life as a high school student, possessing a rare blend of exceptional athletic talent and tireless dedication to academic achievement and extracurricular involvement; and

Whereas, the most decorated track athlete in the history of the Dreher High School girls track program and in the State of South Carolina, Brittney has garnered both state and national recognition for herself and for her school. Among her many accolades and achievements, she has been named The State Newspaper Track Athlete of the Year, South Carolina Sports Report Track Athlete of the Year, and the Character Games MVP, which is awarded for academic and athletic performance, leadership, and community in involvement; she also has been named as an Adidas All-American; and

Whereas, encouraging her teammates to excel by her own display of dedication and discipline, Brittney, captain of the track team, has led Dreher to two consecutive state titles and three titles within the last four years; Brittney also serves as captain of the varsity volleyball team; and

Whereas, Brittney finished her extraordinary athletic career at Dreher by capturing First Place titles in the Triple Jump, 100-Meter Hurdles, and the Long Jump and a Second Place title in the High Jump in a tiebreaker at the South Carolina Track and Field Championships; and

Whereas, Brittney exemplifies excellence not only on the track, but also in the classroom, as she is among the top of her class, maintaining a 3.4 grade point average and serving as a Student Ambassador. She is also an honor roll recipient, and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Letterman Club; and

Whereas, Brittney will undoubtedly continue to bring great pride to her family, high school alma mater, and State when she attends the University of South Carolina in the fall, having received a full track scholarship; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such an extremely talented athlete and student and an extraordinary young woman. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Brittney L. James, senior at Dreher High School in Columbia, for her athletic prowess as a Track and Field star, and for her outstanding leadership, and her academic excellence, and extend her the very best in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Brittney L. James.
