VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR RAYMOND A. JENNINGS, HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AT RIDGE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL, ON BEING NAMED 2006 AAAA LOWER STATE COACH OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION.
Whereas, Raymond A. Jennings, head football coach at Ridge View High School, has been named 2006 AAAA Lower State Coach of the Year by the South Carolina Football Coaches Association; and
Whereas, born in Spartanburg County, he attended Pacolet Elementary and Pacolet Junior High School and is a 1990 graduate of Gettys D. Broome High School. His love for education led him to obtain a bachelor's degree in business administration at Gardner-Webb University in 1994 and a Master of Education Administration degree from Western Carolina University in 1998; and
Whereas, an exceptional athlete from his own school days, Coach Jennings received numerous high school and college sports awards, including All-American honors, and as an outstanding teacher he has turned his experience, prowess, and training into fostering excellence in the players he coaches; and
Whereas, as head football coach at Ridge View High School for the past three years and the first minority head football coach in Richland School District Two, he has aggressively grown his program throughout this time and seen his team move from a 6-6 record in his first year to a 10-3 finish in his third, in addition to having the pleasure of seeing six of his team members earn spots as North-South All-Star players and one earn Shrine Bowl player status; and
Whereas, the great respect accorded him by his peers is well attested to by their selection of Coach Jennings as the 2006 AAAA Lower State Coach of the Year; and
Whereas, aside from his superb coaching skills, Raymond A. Jennings is a fine man who sets a worthy example of good citizenship and sportsmanship for young people. He has generously given of his time, talents, and energy by serving as a mentor instructor with Midlands Technical College's Gear-Up Program for at-risk youth and has developed and implemented mentoring programs for local youth in neighboring elementary, middle school, and community groups; and
Whereas, this outstanding South Carolinian is not just a talented coach and civic-minded individual but also the devoted husband of Nicole Ford-Jennings, who joins him in his dedication to the service of the State of South Carolina and its people; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in according special recognition to such an outstanding educator. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Raymond A. Jennings, head football coach at Ridge View High School, on being named 2006 AAAA Lower State Coach of the Year by the South Carolina Football Coaches Association.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Raymond A. Jennings.
