A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE DELORIS YVONNE MCBRIDE, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS AT MORRIS COLLEGE IN SUMTER COUNTY, ON BEING NAMED A RECIPIENT OF THE EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD BY SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, INC.

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to note that Deloris McBride has been named a recipient of a 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award by South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc. (SCICU); and

Whereas, created by South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc., in order to honor those faculty members who "demonstrate the highest standards of teaching methods that encourage students to strive for excellence in their studies and pursuits," the award is given to one faculty member at each of SCICU's twenty member colleges and universities, each recipient being chosen by his or her own institution, according to rigorous criteria; and

Whereas, a graduate of Morris College in Sumter County, Ohio State University, and Webster University, Ms. McBride is currently a doctoral candidate at Nova Southeastern University, where she is pursuing interest in computer information systems; and

Whereas, since joining the faculty of Morris College in 2000, she has distinguished herself as a knowledgeable, proficient instructor of computer information systems, a wise counselor to students in their exploration of life goals and careers, and developer of the college's Service Learning Program; and

Whereas, in addition, Ms. McBride has proven herself valuable as Service Learning Program Coordinator, advisor to the sophomore class, and leader of technology training workshops for Morris College faculty; and

Whereas, a published author, Deloris McBride's current research involves information literacy and information-seeking behavior, and, in recognition of her exemplary work as both teacher and researcher, Ms. McBride has been an honored recipient of the 2003 and 2007 Morris College Faculty of the Year Award; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take pride in recognizing outstanding South Carolina educators such as Deloris Yvonne McBride and join with her friends and family in congratulating her upon joining the elite group of university and college faculty members who have earned SCICU's coveted Excellence in Teaching Award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Deloris Yvonne McBride, Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Morris College in Sumter County, on being named a recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award by South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Deloris Yvonne McBride.
