VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
APPLAUDING THE WEST FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS TEAM ON ITS 22-2 RECORD FOR 2007, CAPPED BY CAPTURING THE AAAA STATE TENNIS TITLE WITH A WIN OVER THE DEFENDING STATE CHAMPIONS OF LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL.
Whereas, the West Florence High School Knights demonstrated both tenacity and talent in their 4-3 win over defending Lexington High School to take the 2007 AAAA state tennis championship; and
Whereas, the 2007 title topped a 22-2 season for the West Florence team, under the leadership of Head Coach Charlie Nelson and Assistant coach Jamie Magee; and
Whereas, this championship run is the first since 1985 and 1986, but the Green and Gold took the Lower State title in 1988, 1992, and 2006; and
Whereas, the hotly contested season-ending championship match redeemed the Knights' disappointing loss last year for the crown to the same Lexington team; and
Whereas, West Florence netmen include last year's All-Staters, Bobby Browning and Pruitt Williams, and Chesley Merck, Walker Stephens, Smith Williams, Rhys Miles, Reed Williamson, Matthew Canelon, Mark Andrews, and Jamie Spruill; and
Whereas, with only three members graduating this year, the team looks deep and talented enough to continue its highly successful tennis program with more championship crowns to come in the future. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, applaud the West Florence High School tennis team on its 22-2 record for 2007, capped by capturing the AAAA state tennis title with a win over the defending state champions of Lexington High School.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Charlie Nelson and Principal Pam Quick on behalf of the team.
