VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO COMMEND MRS. ANN MARIE TAYLOR, SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT PINE TREE HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN KERSHAW COUNTY, FOR HER COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON BEING NAMED THE 2007 SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, it is with distinct pleasure that the South Carolina General Assembly recognizes educators who approach teaching with passion, creativity, and infectious enthusiasm, along with appropriate academic preparation for their fields; and
Whereas, in the roll call of such South Carolina educators, Mrs. Ann Marie Taylor, special education teacher at Pine Tree Hill Elementary School in Kershaw County, stands chief among their numbers and richly deserves the honor of being named the 2007 South Carolina Teacher of the Year; and
Whereas, in preparation for her life's work, Mrs. Taylor earned a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences, criminal justice, cum laude, at Saginaw Valley State University. During a college internship, she worked with a troubled teen to develop a plan to keep the child in school and off the streets, a watershed experience that showed her she could make a difference in children's lives and that led her into teaching. Later she graduated from Francis Marion University, magna cum laude, with a master's degree in teaching in learning disabilities; and
Whereas, Mrs. Taylor has taught for six years, three of those being at Pine Tree Hill Elementary School in Camden, and has begun the process for National Board Certification; and
Whereas, a "fireball" when it comes to fighting for "her children," Ann Marie Taylor revived Kershaw County's Special Olympics after sixteen years' nonparticipation by the county and serves as a volunteer Special Education Teacher Mentor and a volunteer baby sitter for special needs students; and
Whereas, her classroom provides an environment ripe for learning, where students can not only gain a firm educational foundation but also grow in self-confidence and respect for others and where they can discover, some for the first time, that they are loved; and
Whereas, the General Assembly, with great admiration and appreciation, is pleased to honor this exceptional educator and daughter of South Carolina, Ann Marie Taylor, as the Palmetto State's 2007 Teacher of the Year, and the members join with her colleagues, students, family, and friends in extending best wishes for great success during her tenure as South Carolina's ambassador for public education. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Mrs. Ann Marie Taylor, special education teacher at Pine Tree Hill Elementary School in Kershaw County, for her commitment to providing quality education for the children of South Carolina, and congratulate her upon being named the 2007 South Carolina Teacher of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Ann Marie Taylor.
