TO RECOGNIZE SMITH ALLISON BAKER FOR HIS TEN YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF COLUMBIA AND THANK HIM FOR HIS SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF ITS RESIDENTS.
Whereas, Smith Allison Baker joined the City of Columbia in 1997 as director of parks and recreation; and
Whereas, for nearly three years he has been assistant city manager for public services, responsible for operations of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Community Development, Public Works, General Services, and 911 Communications; and
Whereas, Allison Baker brought with him extensive educational preparation, gained at Norfolk State, Virginia Commonwealth, and George Washington Universities; and
Whereas, his distinguished professional experiences included service as director of recreation, parks, and community facilities for the City of Richmond, Virginia, and more than a decade with the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Affairs with Suffolk, Virginia; and
Whereas, just a few of his outstanding achievements since coming to Columbia include development of the 12-mile Riverfront Park, a $7.5 million wellness center, and a $3.5 million tennis center; and
Whereas, the development of the Greenview Tennis Center and the 68-acre Owens Field Park under his direction garnered national awards; and
Whereas, this superior leader and manager has already left his mark on the superior quality of life offered by the City of Columbia to its residents. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Smith Allison Baker for his ten years of dedicated service to the City of Columbia and thank him for his significant contributions to the quality of life of its residents.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Smith Allison Baker.
