A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE W. M. GENTRY FAMILY AND GENTRY'S POULTRY COMPANY FOR THEIR COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO THE TOWN OF SALUDA AND TO SALUDA COUNTY, AND TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION FOR THE BEAUTIFUL TOWN CLOCK DONATED TO THE COMMUNITY BY GENTRY'S.

Whereas, Gentry's Poultry Company, located in Saluda County, was founded in 1955 by Wesley M. Gentry, Sr., and though it started as a small family-run business, it prospered under the management of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Gentry, Jr., with the help of their sons Larry Gentry and Wesley M. Gentry III; and

Whereas, with continued growth, the success of this company has reached into the twenty-first century, with third and fourth generation Gentry family members participating in the poultry business. Gentry's has grown into an integrated poultry operation with a product line spanning all aspects of poultry and with product distribution throughout South Carolina and Georgia; and

Whereas, employing over one hundred members of the Saluda County community, Gentry's Poultry Company is one of the largest employers in Saluda County and has impacted the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of families for more than fifty years; and

Whereas, Gentry's in turn has thrived, and in appreciation for the support that they have received from the community over this half century, Gentry's has donated a town clock that was dedicated on Saturday, June 16, 2007; and

Whereas, this town clock, Saluda's newest landmark, has been placed in the courtyard of the Saluda County Courthouse. It was made by the Verdin Company of Cincinnati and is black and gold, with four faces, with "Saluda" appearing above each face; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to recognize the Gentry family and Gentry's Poultry Company for their tradition of service to the Saluda County Community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize the W. M. Gentry family and Gentry's Poultry Company for their commitment and dedication to the town of Saluda and to Saluda County, and express appreciation for the beautiful town clock donated to the community by Gentry's.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the W. M. Gentry, Jr. family and to Gentry's Poultry Company.
