VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE CHERAW HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM FOR TWO REMARKABLE SEASONS AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2007 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF.
Whereas, in an impressive 58 to 14 victory over Chapman High School, the Cheraw Braves dominated the gridiron on both offense and defense at Williams-Brice Stadium on December 1, 2007, in their second straight State championship, the first time the Braves have won State titles back to back; and
Whereas, to the amazement of both their admirers and their adversaries, the Braves scored on each of their first nine possessions of the football and left the field after amassing the highest score ever in a Class AA State championship game; and
Whereas, the Braves' record of twenty-eight wins and only two losses for the past two seasons is the best football record in the State for any classification; and
Whereas, through demanding practices and relentless work, the Cheraw Braves have traveled the past four years to championship games and returned twice with titles; and
Whereas, using their athletic skills and training, Coach White and his staff have forged a winning football program that has brought pride and recognition to their school and their community, and have also taught their athletes important lessons that will serve them well beyond the football field. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the Cheraw High School football team for two remarkable seasons and for capturing the 2007 Class AA State Championship football title, and honor the accomplishments of the players, coaches, and staff.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Cheraw High School Principal Dr. Henry Cobb and Coach Johnny White.
