A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR P. EDWIN DELOACH, OF HAMPTON COUNTY, FOR REACHING THE MOMENTOUS MILESTONE OF FIFTY YEARS OF TIRELESS SERVICE ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF PALMETTO ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE.

Whereas, there exist in life few joys more satisfying than that of living a long life marked by service to one's neighbors and community; and

Whereas, P. Edwin DeLoach, born and raised in Hampton County, recently reached his fiftieth anniversary of service on the Palmetto Electric Cooperative's Board of Directors, the longest term of service of any director in the cooperative's history; and

Whereas,    though Mr. DeLoach was an avid supporter of electricity and the cooperative for many years, it was only upon returning to the family farm in Pineland after working at the Savannah shipyard during World War II that he and his wife were able to trade in their kerosene stove and refrigerator for electric appliances; and

Whereas, on February 27, 1952, Mr. DeLoach became a proud member of the Palmetto Electric Cooperative, continuing his enthusiastic promotion of the cooperative. In recognition of his diligence and dedication, he was appointed to the board just five years later and in 1974 was elected chairman; and

Whereas, throughout his tenure on the board, Mr. DeLoach has taken great pride in the relationships he helped forge among the cooperative members and employees, in the programs he has helped introduce, and in the success of the board keeping the cooperative's rates consistently among the lowest in the State; and

Whereas, not only has Mr. DeLoach demonstrated great leadership and talent through his service on the board, but he has also served his community through the Brotherhood of Allendale-Hampton Baptist Association. He has been involved in myriad local projects and, in the spirit of a larger community, traveled with the association to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to convert a coffee plantation into a youth camp; and

Whereas, greatly respected and admired by all, Mr. DeLoach is to be commended for his longstanding commitment to service and his contributions to progress and the quality of life in the Low Country. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor P. Edwin DeLoach, of Hampton County, for reaching the momentous milestone of fifty years of tireless service on the Board of Directors of Palmetto Electric Cooperative.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to P. Edwin DeLoach.
