A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE C.E. MURRAY HIGH SCHOOL "LADY WAR EAGLES" BASKETBALL TEAM, OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2008 CLASS A STATE GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the C.E. Murray High School "Lady War Eagles" basketball team crowned its superlative 30-1 season by capturing the 2008 Class A State Girls Basketball Championship title, defeating Hunter-Kinard 77-61 at Columbia's Colonial Center on Saturday, March 1, 2008; and

Whereas, championship play in basketball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, Head Coach Darren Mazyck and his assistant coaches, Ferrell Matthews and Albertha Wilson, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their basketball program into a championship team; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, the C.E. Murray coaches and players showed both fans and foes alike that the Lady War Eagles' winning of this victory was no lucky accident; and

Whereas, with typical poise and class, these tenacious athletes nailed their second state championship in six years, this time led by All-State senior Schwanna Dunmore and junior Kimberly Rious; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the C.E. Murray High School girls basketball team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the basketball court and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the C.E. Murray High School "Lady War Eagles" basketball team, of Williamsburg County, on its impressive win of the 2008 Class A State Girls Basketball Championship title, and honor the players, coaches, and staff on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the principal of C.E. Murray High School, Torrence Wilson, and Coach Darren Mazyck.
