Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were pleased to learn that the W. J. Keenan High School Lady Raiders basketball team won the 2008 Class AA State Championship title; and
Whereas, on March 1, 2008, the Keenan Lady Raiders squared off against the Lee Central Lady Stallions to win the team's first state championship basketball title in the school's history in an exciting 54-50 finish; and
Whereas, after winning two consecutive regional championships, as well as the Sweet Sixteen Christmas Tournament and the Taco Bell Holiday championships this season, the Lady Raiders were hungry for the state championship which they were denied last year; and
Whereas, named to the All-Tournament team, Olivia Irick, Santera Grooms, and Brittani Goodwin guided Keenan to victory and Olivia Irick led the Lady Raiders in scoring with twenty-five points; and
Whereas, in a game that requires strength, agility, skill, and speed, Head Coach Reggie McLain and Assistant Coaches Robercena Cane, Tyrone Davis, and Freddie Grace used their own athletic ability and experience to forge a championship team through relentless work in demanding practices; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly commend the Keenan High School Lady Raiders for securing their first state championship victory and look forward to hearing of their continued success. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
