VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CARDINAL NEWMAN HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (SCISAA) CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Cardinal Newman High School varsity softball team garnered the 2008 SCISAA Class 3A State Championship on May 10, 2008; and
Whereas, as a rousing commencement to the celebration of the sesquicentennial of Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia, the varsity softball team Lady Cardinals defeated Laurence Manning to take top honors in the state championship matchup for Class 3A; and
Whereas, in an almost nine-hour tournament, the Lady Cardinals battled back from a 1 to 8 loss against Laurence Manning in the first game, their only loss in the tournament, to win two straight games against the Manning team, posting a 14 to 3 win to claim the state championship; and
Whereas, sophomore Nazley Wilson, SCISAA All-State Player of the Year, and senior Sam August, another All-State Player, led their team with senior classmates Lauren McCarter, Meredith Sexton, and Sara Shull through a successful season; and
Whereas, in a sport that requires skill, strength, strategy, and quickness, SCISAA All-State Coach Doug Frye and Assistant Coaches Steve Evans, Joel Hughen, and Mike Rucker used their own athletic skill and experience to produce a championship team through relentless effort in rigorous practices; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to acknowledge the Cardinal Newman varsity softball team for winning the SCISAA State Championship title, its second in just five years, and congratulate the players for bringing pride and recognition to their school and community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Cardinal Newman High School varsity softball team, of Richland County, for a successful season, and congratulate the players and their coaches for capturing the South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (SCISAA) Class 3A Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Jacqualine Kasprowski and Coach Doug Frye.
