A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE, CONGRATULATE, AND APPRECIATE THE POMARIA RURITAN CLUB AS IT CELEBRATES FORTY-FIVE YEARS OF PROVIDING FELLOWSHIP, GOODWILL, AND COMMUNITY AND LEADERSHIP SERVICE TO THE POMARIA COMMUNITY LOCATED IN NEWBERRY COUNTY.

Whereas, the spring of 2008 marks the forty-fifth anniversary of the organization of the Pomaria Ruritan Club which was chartered by Ruritan National in the spring of 1963; and

Whereas, the Pomaria Ruritan Club has achieved a remarkable record of accomplishment providing fellowship, goodwill, and community and leadership service to the community of Pomaria located in Newberry County; and

Whereas, the Pomaria Ruritan Club has a history of providing support and assistance to the Pomaria-Garmany Elementary School through donation and the installation of playground equipment and through the donation of supplies to teachers; and

Whereas, the Pomaria Ruritan Club provides generous scholarship support to certain outstanding Mid-Carolina High School graduates matriculating to college; and

Whereas, the Pomaria Ruritan Club has encouraged and supported a series of humanitarian endeavors, such as disaster relief when tornadoes have struck in Newberry County and elsewhere, and such as providing support for health care for families in need; and

Whereas, the Pomaria Ruritan Club, since being chartered, has served as initial sponsor for three Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops; and

Whereas, the Pomaria Ruritan Club participates in the "Adopt A Highway" Program of the Department of Transportation, thereby helping keep the Pomaria area clean and green and helping protect and improve the quality of the environment; and

Whereas, the Pomaria Ruritan Club is well-known as the source of the famous Pomaria Turkey Stew, which provides the main source of revenue for the club's community and leadership service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize, congratulate, and appreciate the Pomaria Ruritan Club as it celebrates forty-five years of providing fellowship, goodwill, and community and leadership service to the Pomaria Community located in Newberry County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Pomaria Ruritan Club.
