TO RECOGNIZE, CONGRATULATE, AND APPRECIATE TROOP 76, BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, OF POMARIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, AS IT CELEBRATES FORTY-SIX YEARS OF BUILDING CHARACTER AND GOOD CITIZENSHIP, PREPARING BOY SCOUTS TO MEET LIFE'S PERSONAL CHALLENGES, AND MENTORING THEM TO BE PREPARED TO BECOME FUTURE LEADERS STRIVING TO BUILD A BETTER COMMUNITY, COUNTY, STATE, AND NATION.
Whereas, Troop 76, Boy Scouts of America celebrates its forty-sixth anniversary during Year 2008, having been chartered as a Troop in 1962; and
Whereas, since 1962, Troop 76 has been sponsored by Saint John Lutheran Church, located near the Town of Pomaria in Newberry County; and
Whereas, Troop 76 has compiled a tremendous record of achievement in building character and good citizenship in the young men who have participated in its troop activities; and
Whereas, Troop 76 has achieved a wonderful tradition of producing outstanding Boy Scouts, of whom seventy-five have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, preparing them to be future leaders; and
Whereas, Troop 76 and its Boy Scouts through the years have supported an extensive number of community service highlight activities, such as toy drives during the Christmas season; landscaping at the Mills Park walking track in the Town of Prosperity, as well as landscaping improvements at Pomaria-Garmany Elementary School and Mid-Carolina High School; completion of a hiking trail at Lynch's Woods municipal wilderness area in the City of Newberry; creation of a prayer garden at Saint Philip Lutheran Church; discovery and cleanup of an abandoned cemetery and rehabilitation of tombstones; reclamation and cleanup of an historical roadbed at Star Fort Historic Site near the Town of Ninety-Six; donation of clothing for victims of Hurricane Katrina; and visiting shut-ins in homes as well as those residing in nursing care facilities; and
Whereas, Troop 76 has embarked on many travels as educational adventures, including climbing North Carolina's Mount Mitchell, the highest peak East of the Mississippi River; kayaking in the York River in Virginia; visiting the Jamestown-Williamsburg-Yorktown Historic Triangle in Virginia; and camping at Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives recognize, congratulate, and appreciate Troop 76, Boy Scouts of America, of Pomaria, South Carolina, as it celebrates forty-six years of building character and good citizenship, preparing Boy Scouts to meet life's personal challenges, and mentoring them to be prepared to become future leaders striving to build a better community, county, State, and nation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Troop 76, Boy Scouts of America, Pomaria, South Carolina.
