TO PROVIDE THAT, IN ANDERSON COUNTY, ANY REFERENDUM HELD BY A LOCAL TAXING AUTHORITY TO SEEK APPROVAL FOR AN INCREASE IN MILLAGE RATES, TO ISSUE BONDS, OR FOR ANY OTHER REVENUE RAISING MEASURE MUST BE HELD AT THE TIME AS THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION WHEN MEMBERS OF THE TAXING AUTHORITY ARE ELECTED, EXCEPT THAT THE REFERENDUM MUST BE HELD AT THE NEXT CITY ELECTION WHEN CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE ELECTED IF THE TAXING AUTHORITY SEEKING THE REVENUE RAISING MEASURE IS THE ANDERSON CITY COUNCIL.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. When a referendum is held by a local taxing authority in Anderson County to seek approval from a majority of the qualified electors in the authority's district for an increase in millage rates, to issue bonds, or for any other revenue raising measure, the referendum must be held at the time as the next general election when members of the taxing authority are to be elected; except in the case of the City of Anderson, the referendum must be held at the next city election when city council members are elected.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
