CONGRATULATING COACH PATSY E. RHODES ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AND THANKING HER FOR HER YEARS OF COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Coach Patsy E. Rhodes is a native of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and received her degree in education from Western Carolina University; and
Whereas, Coach Rhodes has spent the last thirty-five years teaching at Saluda High School and is presently the head of the Saluda High School Physical Education Department; and
Whereas, Coach Rhodes' coaching career consists of thirty-three years of varsity basketball, fourteen years of softball, one year of track and one year of cheerleading; and
Whereas, Coach Rhodes has received Coach of the Year six times, has coached three South Carolina All-Star teams, and received a Certificate of Commendation for superior teaching from the South Carolina Department of Education and the State Board of Education in 1994; and
Whereas, Coach Rhodes is a member of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association, the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports, the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association, the South Carolina Education Association, the National Education Association, the Saluda County Education Association, the South Carolina Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, the Newberry College Education Council, the Saluda Teen Pregnancy Prevention Council, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; and
Whereas, Coach Rhodes has been a presenter for Saluda High's Writing-Across-the-Curriculum program at three writing conferences, is active in the March of Dimes, and has served as the Executive Secretary/Treasurer for the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports for twenty-two years; and
Whereas, Coach Rhodes has shown her commitment and dedication to athletic and academic excellence to her students, inspiring young people to become good citizens and future contributors to society; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to extend their sincerest thanks to Coach Rhodes for her years of service to the young students and athletes of this State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Coach Patsy E. Rhodes upon her retirement and thank her for her years of commitment and dedication to the athletic and academic excellence in the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Patsy E. Rhodes.
