A SENATE RESOLUTION

HONORING AND THANKING DONALD V. MYERS FOR HIS THIRTY YEARS AS ELEVENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT SOLICITOR, DUTIFULLY SERVING THE PEOPLE OF EDGEFIELD, LEXINGTON, MCCORMICK, AND SALUDA COUNTIES, AND WISHING HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN HIS CONTINUED YEARS OF SERVICE.

Whereas, Donald "Donnie" Myers first began his career as Solicitor of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in 1976, and has served continuously since; and

Whereas, in 1991, he was named Trial Lawyer of the Year for Region IV by the Association of Government Attorneys on Capital Litigation; and

Whereas, Solicitor Myers is South Carolina's senior solicitor and has successfully prosecuted more death penalty cases than any other prosecutor in the State; and

Whereas, as Solicitor, his dedication over the past thirty years to the protection of citizens not only in Lexington County, but throughout the entire State of South Carolina, is evident through his hard-nosed stance on crime, and through his standard of excellence in leadership he has displayed, time and again, as he continually proves to be a tireless advocate for crime victims; and

Whereas, as a brilliant academic and strategist, he has achieved a safer South Carolina for all of its citizens; and

Whereas, as Chairman of the South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination and member of the Board of Directors of the National District Attorneys Association, he is recognized and respected throughout the country as a tireless advocate for crime victims and as an expert in capital litigation and in search and seizure law; and

Whereas, as a thoughtful and loyal Solicitor, he has been blessed with an amazingly supportive staff for the past thirty years; and

Whereas, through his outstanding leadership and steadfast professionalism, Solicitor Myers has served as a role model not only for aspiring attorneys, but for the entire State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, his phenomenal success as a prosecuting attorney in death penalty cases and his reputation as a dedicated public servant with total commitment and unwavering devotion to the law has made him one of Lexington County's most cherished sons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of South Carolina, by this resolution, would like to honor and extend its appreciation for the thirty years Donald Myers has given to the people of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit.
