VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL "LADY BLUE FLAME" VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACH, AND STAFF.
Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the Pickens High School "Lady Blue Flame" volleyball team defeated Hilton Head on November 8, 2008, at White Knoll High School, to capture the 2008 Class AAA State Championship title; and
Whereas, Coach Jennifer Gravely and Assistant Coach Kerry Lightner, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their volleyball program into a championship team and have kept it that way; and
Whereas, this crowning victory caps a 30-3 season for the Pickens High School players, undefeated in region play since 1999, and marks their thirteenth state championship, a record that proves the team is a perennial powerhouse to be reckoned with; and
Whereas, the team picked up other titles throughout the season, such as their win in the Tournament of Champions' Silver Division and their first-place finish at the Pickens Invitational Tournament; and
Whereas, adding luster to an already scintillating season, Mary Willis was named All-Region and a CAWS All-Star and played the All-Tournament Pickens Invitational; Melle Morgan was selected as a CAWS All-Star; Kara Morgan was tapped as a CAWS All-State and an All-Region player, was named High School Sports Report's AAA Player of the Year and All-Tournament at the Tournament of Champions, and played in the All-Tournament Pickens Invitational and Border Bash Tournament; Cassie Gravely was named CAWS All-State and played the All-Tournament Pickens Invitational and Border Bash Tournament; and Hillary Gambrell played the All-Tournament Pickens Invitational; and
Whereas, as High School Sports Report's Class AAA Coach of the Year for 2008, Coach Jennifer Gravely added another jewel to the Lady Blue Flame's volleyball crown; and
Whereas, the Pickens High School volleyball team has brought great pride and recognition to its school and community, and the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young women. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Pickens High School "Lady Blue Flame" volleyball team for its outstanding season and for capturing the 2008 Class AAA State Championship, and honor the team's exceptional players, coach, and staff.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Marion Lawson and Coach Jennifer Gravely of Pickens High School.
